SMITHVILLE, Mo. – A Smithville family is mourning the loss of a loved one.

According to a tweet from the Missouri Highway Patrol, around 6:15 a.m., this morning, a Corp of Engineers Ranger recovered the body of Charles O. Roe. Roe, 37, went missing after borrowing his grandfather’s boat on Wednesday night. The boat was found Thursday morning in Sailboat Cove, grounded with the motor still running.

Today would have been the third day of the recovery operation at Smithville Lake.
