CARROLL COUNTY, Mo. — Charges have been filed and bond amended in Carroll County against a man who authorities say was involved in a burglary near Bogard in September of 2018.

Canaan Bigelow (VINELink)

A report of theft was first made to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department on September 15, 2018 in which the victims alleged a number of items, valued at more than $4,000, were taken from his Bogard residence. Among the items stolen were jewlery, a handgun and an arrowhead collection.

Authorities were in luck when the report was made, though, as a deputy had conducted a traffic stop only days prior and recovered the described stolen items from the occupants of the vehicle.

At the time of the stop, Canaan Bigelow, 26, of Chillicothe, was in possession of a bag containing the items, but told deputies the bag belonged to an unnamed person who had been in the vehicle earlier that same day.

Bigelow is now formally charged with felonies for burglary in the second degree and stealing $750 or more.

During a hearing January 2, Bigelow pleaded not guilty and had his $20,000 bond amended by the court to $40,000, cash or surety.

He remains behind bars at the Chariton County Jail. Bigelow is slated to appear next on Wednesday, January 16 at 9:00 a.m. for a case hearing.
