We now have further details on an accident reported on Highway 24 in Chariton County Friday afternoon. According to the Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by Virgil Young, 71, of Salisbury was hauling another vehicle on Westbound Highway 24, just East of Salisbury, when he ran off the left side of the road, overturned down an embankment and struck a tree. Young was seriously injured and flown to University Hospital. A passenger in the flatbed truck, Dustin Hurt, 27, of Salisbury was moderately injured and transported to Moberly Regional Med. Center.

Reports have indicated a 2 vehicle accident on Hwy 24, 5 miles East of Salisbury near the Middle Fork Bridge.

Unconfirmed reports indicate a pick-up involved in the accident has gone over the guard rail and is on its top in the creek bed. Reportedly there are injuries and one person is trapped inside of the overturned vehicle.

Chariton County deputies have requested air ambulance. If you are in the area please use caution and allow emergency workers plenty of time to work the scene.
