UPDATE: 5:30 p.m. – A Waverly resident was injured in a vehicle accident involving a semi tractor trailer just south of I-70 Thursday afternoon.

A report by Highway Patrol indicates the passenger vehicle driven by Joseph Givens of Waverly struck the back of the tractor trailer unit southbound near 110th Road. The truck was reportedly slowing to make a left turn. Givens was not wearing a safety device, according to the report. He was transported, with serious injuries, to Fitzgibbon Hospital.

Troop A says the debris from the accident has been cleared and traffic has returned to normal.

KMZU News has confirmed reports of a motor vehicle accident blocking the southbound lanes of Highway 65 near the Pettis-Saline County line.

The crash reportedly happened one mile south of Interstate 70 shortly before 3:00 p.m. and involved a semi and a passenger vehicle.

A spokesperson for the Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that emergency crews are currently en route to the scene. The roadway is blocked at this time and delays are expected.

Anyone traveling south on 65 Highway near Interstate 70 should exercise caution and plan alternative routes if possible.
