October is National Farm to School month, a recognition created to promote agriculture and eduction. Efforts are underway to connect farmers with members of the community by getting locally raised produce into area schools, hospitals, day care centers, colleges and other institutions.
The program in Missouri is referred to as Farm to Institution. State Director Lorin Fahrmeier says there is currently a contest underway encouraging residents, classes or businesses to take photos of fresh food cooked up and served in a meal. The photos should be posted on the group’s Facebook page.
