The Brookfield High School and Middle School Student Councils will be hosting their first annual, “Freezin’ for a Reason,” fundraiser benefiting the Special Olympics. This fundraiser will specifically benefit the Brookfield Special Olympics group that compete at the Special Olympic level.

The plunge will take place on Sunday, February 8, 2015, beginning at noon. Teams can meet the Student Council members at the County Club Lake of Brookfield.

The day will start off with last minute registration and team sign-in from 12p.m. to 1:15. The first exciting event will be the Parade of Plungers taking place at 1:30. The teams are encouraged to dress up in fun costumes and even team themed costumes. The best costumes will be awarded prizes and teams will plunge with their costumes on. At 2p.m. the plunge will get underway with each team being announced before they take the icy dive. Participants will plunge into the cold waters of the County Club Lake.

There will be two levels of plunges, the first level is the “Puppy-dog Level,” for those divers who only want the water to reach their knees and then there is the, “Big-dog Level,” for the hardcore teams that will allow the water to reach all the way to their chest.

The frozen plungers, as well as all the supports who remained dry, are invited to participate in a soup supper held at the Club House directly after the plunge.

The cost to register a team is $40 and no more than four people can be on a team. Checks are payable to Brookfield High School. A registration form and a waiver must also be filled out to participate. It is recommended that plungers be at least 10 years of age or older, with no major health or heart conditions. Of course, parents are more than welcome to get involved and brave the waters too.

Preregistration for this event is welcomed and you can do so by contacting the Student Council sponsor, Angie Wallace, via phone at (660) 258-7242 or mail at BHS Student Council 124 Pershing Road Brookfield, Missouri 64628.
