“I am really looking forward to the opportunity,” Tarpening said. “I am grateful to the city council for appointing me to this position. I am very excited to begin this new position and I thank everyone for all of their support.”
Tarpening has been with the city for 36 years. She said the 27 years she spent as city clerk has prepared her for the new role. “There’s a lot of duties that coincide. I have immensely enjoyed my position as city clerk. I have made a lot of friends. It’s very rewarding. We do parallel some of our duties and we have a lot of huge financial projects in the works. However, I think it will be a smooth, comfortable transition.”
The city is now searching for their next city clerk.
