Odessa Fire crews were called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon about four miles south of Odessa.
When crews arrived they found a passenger car in flames as well as approximately one to one-and-a-half acres of grass surrounding the vehicle. According to Odessa Fire Chief Kevin Campbell the driver apparently looked away from the road for just an instant and the right wheels dropped off the side of Mo. 131 which sent the car through a fence before coming to rest in the field.
Chief Campbell says it appears the car’s exhaust may have been what ignited the dry grass. There were no reported injuries.
