A new building has been selected as a fully functional Carroll County YMCA in Carrollton. Click to hear KMZU’s Chris Clift talk with YMCA Executive Director Ben Jacobi:

Ben Jacobi

“It’s about a block from the square. It is right in the middle of town, so that’s a good thing,” said Jacobi. The new YMCA will be located where Main Street Market was previously. “It is about 10,000 square feet right now with options to extend on in the future and use the building next to it. Initially, we will have the open area and a back area which will be about 10,000 square feet.”

Jacobi said that the YMCA Board will need volunteers to get the project off the ground. He has hopes the construction on the facilities will be finished by October or November.

“There is a lot of work to be done which consists of our employees, our board members, and any volunteers that we can get. It is going to be a process. We are still in the middle of getting things out of the building right now, as soon as that is clear we will start our plan to start doing everything. We have some offices to build up, we have to bring the equipment in, and we have to change some things around in there. It is going to be a process, but it is going to be pretty awesome,” Jacobi stated.

The new Carroll County Area YMCA will have facilities for kids and adults to use. Kids will be able to go after school have the options to ping pong, shuffleboard and pool just to name a few. There will be a social room and a meeting room in addition to the exercise facilities.

“We will have a full weight room inside which will consist of about 17 machines,” added Jacobi. “There will be a full free weight selection as well. You will have your dumb bells, your bench presses, all that stuff as well. We will also have a cardio area which will have treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent bikes, and upright bikes.”

Membership options and full pricing will be posted on the Carroll County Area YMCA’s website and Facebook page some soon, according to Jacobi. There are a multitude of options for membership.

“Memberships are available. Pricing and options will be up very soon on our website and Facebook,” Jacobi said. “The options will consist of family memberships, single memberships, single parent memberships, youth memberships, high school memberships, senior memberships and senior family memberships. That’s a total of seven different options, so we will have a lot of different choices for you based on your situation.”

Jacobi said that day passes will also be available and monthly passes will be available as well. The regular memberships are on an annual or bi-annual basis.
