JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Carrollton Public Library will receive a Public Library Collection Development grant in the amount of $2,000.00, according to Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft.

According to a release from Ashcroft’s office, the grants are issued to libraries in areas with higher poverty and lower assessed valuation. Eligible libraries were also required to be active in interlibrary loan programs.

There will be 109 Public Library Collection Development grants issued this year for a total of $799,089.00 in funding provided by the state.

“Public libraries act as an important hub for communities, providing access to resources, technology and programs that help citizens learn and develop,” Ashcroft said in a news release. “These services are especially necessary in areas of high poverty, which often have high barriers to education. Grants like these are intended to increase the resources libraries have to draw on, and lower those barriers.”

The grants are made possible by the Library Services and Technology Act through the U. S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
