DTN – Members of the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) narrowly voted down a change to the group’s by-laws that would allow board members to elect, rather than officers appoint, committee members responsible for vetting and voting in new members.  The board also elected a new chairman and approved the Roles and Responsibilities plan.

Many CBB members stressed they were trying to put recent leadership turnover and criticism about too-cozy relationships with National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in the past during the update session during NCBA’s summer conference.  The board adopted the Roles the Responsibilities report unanimously, and it’s touted as an effort to increase transparency and involvement in spending the $1 per head checkoff fee.
