UCM’s Erika Kinsey, after winning the NCAA high jump championship, is striving for a bigger feat. Winning three national championships isn’t enough for Kinsey, she participated this past weekend at the European Athletics Team Championships in Cheboksary, Russia where she placed fourth in the high jump with a personal-record 1.97m (6′ 5.5″). She also qualified for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships later this summer.
Kinsey broke her personal-best at the meet twice, first jumping 1.94m and clearing 1.97 on her third attempt. As it stands, her mark of 1.97 currently has her tied for third this year. That mark would have set a new NCAA Division II record. As a student-athlete at UCM this past year, Erika Kinsey helped the Jennies to their first NCAA team championships in school history. She will be continuing to make her name for herself at the IAAF World Championships, it will take place August 22-30 and held in Beijing, China.
