The challenge has been officially issued for this year’s AARP National Spelling Bee. Registration is now open for the June 18 event, which draws competitors ages 50-plus from all over the country. Comments from Tim Summers, AARP Wyoming state director. AARP Wyoming hosts the bee, scheduled for June 18th in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It’s the 16th year A-A-R-P Wyoming has hosted the event, and the group’s Tim Summers says the idea grew out of a brainstorming session to come up with fun ways to inspire older folks to keep on learning. The bee is open to anyone age 50 and over, including previous winners. Words will come from Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition. Spelling word lists, study resources and registration are all available online from A-A-R-P (www.AARP.org/spellingbee).
