A Moberly man is being held on a $50,000 cash only bond following last week’s incident in the 500 block of Bertley Street. The Moberly Police Department says Randolph County Associate Circuit Judge Cynthia Suter issued a warrant for 29-year old Steven Gehring II, charging him with first-degree assault and armed criminal action on 37-year old Nicole DeChant. She remains in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital with a neck laceration. According to court records, Gehring has had several run-ins with the law. In 2003, he pleaded guilty to 3rd degree domestic assault and 2nd degree burglary. A 3-year prison sentence was suspended, and he was ordered to serve 5 years probation, which was later revoked. In 2000, he pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, and 2 years earlier, he entered a guilty plea to charges of assault on a law enforcement officer. Gehring has been transferred to a high security medical facility, as he recovers from his injuries in last week’s incident.
