CHILLICOTHE, Mo. — The Chillicothe Fire Department was dispatched to a structural fire early this morning, according to an incident press release from fire chief Darrell Wright.
The department was dispatched to Donaldson Company, in Chillicothe, just after 1 a.m. to a report of a fire in the roof of the building. An employee led firefighters to the center of the building, where a small fire was discovered burning next to a part-cleaning machine’s exhaust pipe.
Upon getting access to the building’s roof, emergency workers discovered a fire in the insulation and roof covering approximately 1 foot in circumference around the pipe. They peeled back the insulation and roof covering and used both water and a dry chemical fire extinguisher to douse the fire.
The damage was contained to the roof area around the pipe.
Employees of the company stated that the pipe gets very hot when in operation and apparently had ignited buildup of debris from normal operation.
Crews were at the scene for just under an hour.
