CHILLICOTHE, MO – A Chillicothe man has been publicly commended for saving a young life during sub-zero temperatures in February.

The Sheriff’s Department in Livingston County recognized Eugene Meyer, Tuesday for his actions in the early morning of February 14.

According to the press release, Meyer had been driving down a rural road, that he rarely traveled, when he came upon a lone toddler, poorly dressed, standing in a ditch. Meyer warmed the freezing child in his vehicle. After failing to find the 2-year-old’s residence, he contacted County Dispatch. Emergency services transported the child to a hospital for evaluation. The Sheriff’s office was later able to locate the family of child.

The department also credits “divine intervention” for the events that Valentine’s Day morning.
