The new city budget for the fiscal year beginning April 1 was passed by Chillicothe council members Monday.
One of the larger expenses planned for the coming fiscal year is a project for reconditioning the airport runway, leading to a slight increase in past budget amounts. The city began budgeting for that project several years ago. The new budget comes in at just over 18 million dollars. The purchase of police vehicles is also included, following increases in maintenance expenses for this year. City auditor Theresa Kelly said an increase in interest income also allowed a moderate increase in spending potential.

The preface to the budget by city administrator Darin Chappell, expressed optimism for future economic growth, which is reflected in a modest expected revenue increase of 1% compared to last year.
