The Rotary Club will sponsor the Jenkins Townhouse Lighting Ceremony Friday, November 21st at 6 p.m. in Chillicothe. The event signals the beginning of Christmas. Santa and a few of his friends will be there. The Central School Stingers will perform holiday songs under the direction of Dan Venner. And 3rd grader Kaden Cranmer, from Field Elementary School, will turn on the lights.
“I believe it’s something that’s been going on for at least 20 years. It’s a longstanding tradition here in Chillicothe,” Robin Westphal, President of Chillicothe Rotary Club, said.
The Rotary Club has sponsored the event for three years and prior to that it was a chamber event. Everyone is invited and stay after the lighting ceremony to walk through the display and visit with Santa Claus. The display is open to visitors during the holidays.
This event serves as the official kick off to the Salvation Army’s annual bell ringing campaign.
