The Chamber also issued the following press release:

Chillicothe, Mo:  “Sharing the Gift of Christmas” has been selected as the theme for the 65th Annual Holiday Parade to be held in downtown Chillicothe on Saturday, Nov. 19. This event attracts hundreds of local and area residents to downtown Chillicothe on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

“Chillicothe is such a generous community – especially during the holidays – and we wanted to put a spotlight on that spirit of giving.  Many people donate toys and food, or give their time and money to many worthwhile individuals, groups and organizations,” commented Lindy Chapman, Executive Director of the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Holiday Parade committee wanted the Parade’s theme to focus on the many different types of charitable opportunities in Chillicothe during the holiday season and to celebrate the support from the community.”

In a change of procedure this year, the Chamber’s Holiday Parade committee is requesting nominations for the 2011 Parade Grand Marshal.  “We know there are many individuals who exemplify the spirit of giving in Chillicothe, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year.  We are requesting nominations of someone who would be a strong representative of that giving spirit,” according to Chapman.  Nomination forms may be picked up at the Chamber office or can be emailed or faxed.  The form requests information such as the name of the individual, and a brief statement, 100 words or less, of how that person shares his or her gifts and embodies the overall theme of the Parade.

Grand Marshal Nomination forms are due by Thursday, October 13, 2011 to the Chamber Office at 514 Washington Street.

All are invited to be a part of the Holiday Parade.  Many businesses, organizations, partners in education and individuals enter the Parade each year.  2011 Parade entry forms are also available now.  There is no parade entry fee for those who register by November 9, 2011.  Parade entries can be placed in either judged or non-judged categories. All participants are asked to decorate their parade entry and will be supplied an entry number to display on the float or vehicle. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three places in each judged category. The judged categories are business, youth organizations, and non-profit organizations.
