The Chula Rural Fire Department is hosting their annual winter fundraising event. “Every year on the first Saturday of February we have a whole hog supper,” explained Simpson, “It is a free will donation and we use it for expenses that are needed to try to build up our fire equipment, which is pretty expensive. A full set of gear now is about $1,200.”
Around 200 people usually show up for the well-known hog supper. The night’s meal is complete with sides that include green beans, corn, and cole slaw, as well as cake and ice cream for dessert. “We usually have a good turn out,” Simpson stated, “We have a lot of fun. We just appreciate the help that we get from the community. Everything is really helpful and we have a good bunch of people that come.”
The dinner is scheduled to begin at 5:30 and will run through 7 p.m. at the Chula Community Center.
A load of wood is up for auction with the proceeds going to the Fire Department also.
