UPDATE: (12/16/2016 2:30 a.m.)  We now have the identify of the man who lost his life in the trench collapse in Belton yesterday. The family says 30 year old Donald “D.J.” Meyer of Oak Grove was a working father, raising his 8 year old son, Ashton, after Meyer’s wife died a few years ago. Emergency crews worked in freezing temperatures well into Thursday night to recover his body. The collapse occurred as the men laid a sewer line at a home construction site in the 600 block of Emmerson Drive.

UPDATE:  7 p.m.   A 30-year-old man was found dead.  The victim’s body was under eight feet of earth.  According to Technical Rescue crews it could take several more hours before it can be recovered. OSHA is investigating the incident.

BELTON, Mo.- According to reports, a trench collapsed today, December 15, 2016, ultimately trapping a worker.

Emergency crews were reported around noon to the 600 block of Emerson Drive. The report states that two workers were working on a sewer line outside the house when the trench collapsed, trapping one of the workers.

Both the Kansas City Fire Department and Belton authorities are working to clear the trench and free the worker.
