The U.S. Fish And Wildlife Service is currently seeking comments on an amended compatibility determination for hunting on the refuge and it’s outlying units which are located in Chariton, Bates, Henry, Cedar, and St. Claire Counties.
A Hunting Plan and Environmental Assessment for Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Sumner was completed in September of this year that will expand hunting opportunities on Swan Lake. A Compatibility Determination was approved for hunting back in 2011, as part of the Comprehensive Conservation Plan. Refuge Manager Steve Whitson says the reason for this comment period was pretty simple.
A copy of the amended Compatibility Determination can be obtained at the Visitors Center at Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge, and Whitson notes it is also available at some other public venues.
Comments on the amended Compatibility Determination will be taken through November 7th.
