Press Release from State Fair Community College:
SEDALIA—Area artist and teacher Linda Hoover will be the featured community artist for the 2011-2012 academic year at the Proctor Library at State Fair Community College.
An exhibition of her watercolors, portraits and caricatures will open Aug. 15 and remain through spring semester. About a dozen pieces will be rotated throughout the year.
Hoover has been a working artist in the Sedalia area for more than 30 years. She teaches art two days a week at Northwest Elementary School in Houstonia and also works in her studio or on location.
Her favorite medium is watercolor, but she also is a portrait artist and has created caricatures at parties, fairs and on mission trips to China, Russia, Israel, and the country of Georgia. She also paints large-scale wall murals, often of school mascots or scenes at schools or churches. She had a sign painting business for 10 years in the Cole Camp area.
Hoover graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education in 1997 from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. In 2003 she received a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Art from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has received commissions for numerous portraits, paintings, drawings, and murals.
One of Hoover’s watercolors, “Bike Shop,” is included in this year’s juried “Missouri 50 Exhibition,” a joint project of the Missouri Arts Council and the Missouri State Fair, which showcases top Missouri artists.
