SALINE COUNTY, Mo. — A Slater man convicted of sexual assault in the early 1990s is facing new child-sex related charges in Saline County.
Court documents filed Friday indicate that Larry Wayne Powers, 51, was called before a judge for a routine filing in April to update his personal information. Powers is required to register his address and phone number with the court due to a conviction in 1992 for sexually assaulting juvenile.
Prosecutors allege that Powers provided the court with a false email and phone number during the filing April 10.
When approached by investigators, he allegedly admitted to lying about his information. He also told authorities he had a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old on more than one occasion in February and March of 2018.
Powers is now charged with two felony counts of first degree sodomy or attempted sodomy and a single felony for failure to register as a sex offender.
Powers was taken to the Saline County Jail, where he is held on $200,000 bond, cash only.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in a Saline County courtroom Wednesday, June 6 at 9:00 a.m.
