Authorities in Lafayette, Linn, and Johnson Counties have called for a “burn ban” until the weather changes.   Click to hear KMZU’s Bob Allen talk with Lafayette County Presiding Commissioner Harold Hoflander:

Harold Hoflander

Hoflander says residents need to be careful in these extremely dry conditions.  The ban comes as many “controlled” burns have escalated to major fires during the past week.  The commission was contacted by local fire protection districts about issuing the ban due in part to several brush and field fires that have occurred in the area.
