Nealy says you can request a fraud alert on your credit report- meaning you are notified anytime someone tries to open a line of credit in your name. The alerts expire every 90 days.  She also recommends using different services to request a free credit report every three to four months to remain proactive in guarding your personal information- instead of requested your free annual report from all three credit reporting agencies at the same time.
