Results from a portion of the Pro Farmer crop tour are in and there’s no big surprise, it’s going to be a rough harvest for much of the Midwest.  Scouts on the eastern leg of the tour estimate Ohio’s crop around 110 bushels per acre. Meanwhile the soybean pod count for Ohio tallied in a 3 by 3 foot area totaled 1,033 pods.  On the western leg South Dakota’s corn yield is forecast almost half of what it was a year ago with a yield averaging 74-bushels an acre.  Additionally – Pro Farmer Editor Chip Florey says the state’s bean pod count down 47-percent…

Other observations from the western leg include more acres harvested for silage.  According to Florey, farmers have reported silage yield of 4 to 5 ton per acre, down 3 to 4 tons from a typical harvest.  Farm country is sitting on edge this week as results from the annual run are seen as solid estimates by many in agriculture – from grain producers to buyers.
