The Lafayette County Health Department has confirmed an outbreak of Cryptosporidiosis. Click to hear KMZU’s Bob Allen talk with Health Department Environmental Public Health Specialist Tom Emerson:

Tom Emerson

Emerson says the illness has been traced to the Lexington City Pool. According to Emerson, Lexington voluntarily closed the pool for decontamination and other area pools will follow suit. Infected individuals may experience watery diarrhea, vomiting, and loss of appetite, but Emerson says people generally recover without needing treatment.

To prevent getting the disease, wash your hands thoroughly after using the bathroom and avoid drinking untreated water.
