CHILLICOTHE, MO – A meeting of Chillicothe officials reviewed possible ways forward after the damage of a bridge on Ryan Lane.

A serious vehicle accident, over a week ago, rendered the bridge over a railway unusable. Railroad inspectors said wooden trusses under the bridge were damaged after the crash. City leaders believe a new bridge, built to modern specifications, would have to span a longer distance than the current structure, and could be close to $2 million by rough estimates. Council members are also worried about timely emergency service access to the industrial park while the bridge is out.

City administrator, Darin Chappell, said conversations will have to be undertaken with the railroad and MODOT to determine the city’s role in repairing the bridge.
