Lafayette County residents have less than two weeks to apply for federal disaster aid. According to officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Kansas City, those affected by this year’s flood event from Jun. 1 to Aug. 1, have until Oct. 11 to apply for assistance.
The cut off to file claims is typically 60 days from the date of damage, but it was extended to 120 this year.
FEMA representatives say flood insurance policy holders should call their insurance agent to open a claim as quickly as possible.
