BENTON COUNTY, MO – A Lincoln man will be going to jail after a plea agreement Friday with prosecutors.
The defendant, William Heffernan, 22, pleaded guilty to three counts including 1st degree manslaughter. Heffernan was originally arrested for 2nd degree murder in the death of Caleb Shephard. The manslaughter charge will carry a sentence of eight years in Department of Corrections. Sentences for lesser charges, Armed Criminal Action, and Tampering with evidence, consisting of 3 and 2 years, will run concurrent to the manslaughter sentence.
