New details have been released in connection to a discovery made Thursday afternoon near the Chariton/Saline county line. Authorities were called to a Missouri River access point after a fisherman found a body floating on the south side of the river, about two miles downstream from the small town of Dalton. The badly decomposed body was that of an older white male with tattoos, according to a report from the Saline County Sheriff’s Department. The man was wearing dentures with the name “Cooper” and the number “456048” engraved in the underside. “We believe this body most likely floated down river from the Kansas City area,” Saline County Sheriff Wally George said in an interview Friday.
Investigators also believe the body had been in the water since last winter. The Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on Friday. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Saline County Sheriff’s Department at (660) 886-5511.
