Gioacchino Rossini’s Opera “Cinderella”, a comic opera written in the 19th century, will be performed in English at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe. The Des Moines Metro Opera, which is delivering the performance, is a traveling troupe of performers based in Des Moines.
The administrator of the Chillicothe Area Arts Council, Julie Ashbrook, says “Those reviewing this opera of Rossini’s call it one of his funniest operas, but with great lessons to be observed…” She continues, ”Rossini’s version… has some unique twists and turns, but the story remains true to the traditional plot: a lovely young girl is poorly treated by her family, betrayed by those who should be supporting of her.”
Ashbrook says the performance is for all ages and is specifically desirous that the younger generation take the time to experience a live performance of this classic tale.
The box office will open on Friday at 6:00 p.m., with the auditorium doors opening at 6:30. Tickets for adults are $15.00, and for students, $7.00.
