BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. – A driver charged for a fatal hit and run crash in St. Joseph, will serve a short sentence in the Department of Corrections.
Mickayla Helfery, 20, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident during her arraignment on Monday. She was sentenced to 120 days of shock time and 5 years on probation.
On November 26th, Helfery was attempting to make a left-hand turn when she hit a motorcyclist driving northbound on King Hill. The motorcyclist Randy “Scott” Hardin, 30, died at the hospital from his injuries.
Helfery claimed she had left the scene of the accident because she had an active warrant in Andrew County.
She later turned herself in to the police.
