COLUMBIA, Mo— An eastern Missouri man is being held on multiple charges in Boone County after an early
morning pursuit which began on Brushwood Lake Road near Scott Boulevard in Columbia.
A release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office indicates a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop around 2 a.m. this morning before the pursued vehicle began to accelerate, reaching a speed of approximately 70 mph. Several minutes into the chase, the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree near Howard Orchard Road.
The suspect escaped from the vehicle and a short foot pursuit ensued before deputies were able to detain the individual, later identified as St. Louis resident, David Andrew Davis, 27.
After capture, Davis was reported to have tried to swallow a plastic bag with a white powdery substance which field tested positive for cocaine. Davis, currently on probation of a prior drug conviction, is now behind bars in the Boone Count jail for suspicion of a controlled substance, felony resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, and careless and imprudent driving as well as a probation and parole violation.
No bond has been set.
