38 years now have come together in September to have a state contest. Rain, Sleet, snow and the hottest of days, the cornhusking still went on.
Pandemic and restricts shut down the contest last year. We are ready to back in the field this year.
All thou it is still a rival competition and many of us has been competing since it started back up in 1983, it is a family atmosphere. Meeting up with our brothers and sisters of the Battle of the Bangboards and welcoming new faces and families into the cornhusking family.
The contest now has 12 different classes, with time limits ranging from 10 to 30 min. But the rules remain the same. Pick as much as you can in the time limit, but for each lb of corn left in the field, it is multiplied by 3 and deducted. And for each time limit, there is a set amount of husk you can have. Once you go over that amount, a percentage of your total weigh is deducted.
The National Contest is rotated within the 9 state that form the National Cornhusking Association
This year – State Contest will be at Marshall MO, Saline CO Fairground on September 18. Nationals is held in Oakley KS, at Buffalo Bill Center October 17th
We invite you all to not only come as spectators of the sport but invite you to participate as well.
