Weston Bend State Park will host the annual Wings Over Weston festival 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the park’s Bee Creek Shelter. Considered the state’s largest annual birding festival, Wings Over Weston introduces children to the world of birds, including their different characteristics, migration patterns and the importance of habitat conservation.
The event is free, and all ages are welcome to visit the educational stations that will provide different types of information and activities. Included will be bird banding, guided bird hikes, arts and crafts and games. A special feature will highlight rescued and rehabilitated birds from Operation Wildlife and Raptor Rehab.
Sponsors for Wings Over Weston include the Burroughs Audubon Society of Greater Kansas City, Midland Empire Audubon Society, National Audubon Society, Missouri Master Naturalists, City of Weston, Platte County Parks and Recreation, Missouri Department of Conservation and Missouri State Parks.
