The City of Excelsior Springs held a special meeting Monday afternoon to set their tax rate for the upcoming year. Click to hear KMZU’s Bob Allen talk with Excelsior Springs Mayor Ambrose Buckman:
Buckman says the annual hearing went smoothly. Valuations within the city limits are down slightly, so the levy will increase slightly to $1.1599, up from $1.1485 per $100 of valuation.
After approving rate, council members transitioned into a budget workshop during which they talked at length about the financial status of the city-owned golf course, which is losing money. Council discussed the loss of revenue and possible new revenue streams for the municipal facility. Council plans to finalize next year’s budget after a few minor changes at a meeting in September.
