UPDATE: 8 p.m. – A vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Waverly killed one resident, according to a Highway Patrol investigation.
The accident occurred as a vehicle driven by James Frazier, 65, crossed the center of the road at 24 Highway , east of Old Santa Fe Trail, striking the side of another vehicle as it swerved to avoid a collision. A passenger in the second vehicle, Betty Dyer, 68, of Waverly, was pronounced dead at the scene. Frazier was seriously injured, and taken by Lifeflight to Truman Medical Center.
Moderate injuries were sustained by three other occupants, taken to area hospitals for treatment: Layton Cooper, 2, of Waverly, Charles Karras, 33, of Alma, and Jessica Williams, 28 of Alma.
UPDATE: 4 p.m. – The crash was reported on 24 Highway at the city limits of Waverly. Traffic was down to one lane, according to witnesses. Initial reports indicate one subject was transported by air to an area hospital.
WAVERLY, Mo. — Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol has confirmed that there has been a fatality accident on 24 Highway near Waverly this afternoon.
The fatality crash is believed to be a head on collision.
According to the Highway Patrol traffic is not backed up as a result of the accident.
