Both senators from Missouri complained after an aid package, that may help midwestern states in the aftermath of flood damage, was voted down.

Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley say Democrats refused to countenance the appropriations legislation, since it included money for Puerto Rico, amounting to $600 million, which they said was insufficient to aid in recovery efforts from 2017 hurricanes. Hawley said Democrats are holding farmers and ranchers hostage to settle a political score. Senator Deb Fisher of Nebraska said Puerto Rico has already received $41 billion in approved funds toward the hurricane disaster. The emergency supplemental appropriation just voted down, which amounts to a total of $13.45 billion, would have made Missouri, as well as Iowa and Nebraska, eligible for federal aid.
