LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – On Saturday, the Lee’s Summit Police Department announced a joint investigation with fire officials, into a suspicious house fire.
A news release says, at approximately 7:00 a.m. Saturday, the fire department responded to a structure fire in the 1200 block of Southeast 11th Street. A neighbor reported smoke coming from the roof. Firefightes forced entry into the home and extinguished the flames. After confirming that the family was out of town, firefighters found circumstances that indicated the origin of the fire may be suspicious.
Investigators now say a burglary had occurred and the house was set on fire to destroy evidence of the crime.
