Although, public officials recommend going to a public fireworks display for your pyrotechnical needs, some will put on their own shows during Independence Day festivities. Extreme caution should be exercised in that case. Sgt. Brent Bernhardt with Missouri Highway Patrol’s Troop B, says potential accidents can be avoided with proper precautions.

A Consumer Product Safety Commission study of fireworks injuries for the year 2014 show nearly 230 persons nationwide were injuries during the span of one month, surrounding the holiday. The percentage of those injuries incurred by those 14 yrs or younger, was 35%. Males were also nearly three times more likely to be injured than females.
