SEDALIA, Mo — Demolition of the First Methodist Church in Sedalia will begin at around 8:30 this morning. Built in the late 1890’s, the historic structure burned to the ground Wednesday night despite the joint efforts of the Sedalia Fire Department and Pettis County Fire District.
Investigators that began processing the site early yesterday morning determined that the amount of damage to the structure made it too dangerous to enter or leave to stand in it’s compromised condition. Because of the demolition, the cause of the fire may never be determined.
Work is expected to take most of the day, and residents are urged to use caution when traveling the 100 block of 4th Street in downtown Sedalia.
