Official opening ceremonies for the wall’s visit to the area are scheduled for this evening at 7:00 p.m.  “In conjunction with what’s going on with the wall, the local VFW has received an All-American award which is something of great honor,” said Felderman, “They have to go through a lot of protocol to be recognized for this.  They will receive this award from the state commander in conjunction with the opening.  The ceremony will include the singing of the national anthem by local people.”

A large crowd of veterans and their families are expected to come out for the event.  “If you have a name or names you want to find on the wall, there will be people there to show you where to find your party’s name, “said Felderman, “We will also have people who will help in the grieving process.  The Vietnam War never ended for a lot of people because of their losses. If that’s an issues for someone, we want to help and will have ministers available.”

The memorial will remain open to the public at Dockery Park through Monday evening.
