veteransJEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Almost 500,000 Missouri Residents have honorably served in our nation’s military, and today Governor Jay Nixon encourages you to thank them for their service.

In June, Governor Nixon signed into law funding for $33 million in improvement projects at Missouri’s seven veterans homes.  He also signed House Bill 179, making it easier for veterans to obtain a veteran’s designation on their driver’s license or ID card to prove their status as a veteran.

In 2010 Governor Nixon established the Show-Me Heroes program, an initiative that helps connect military veterans with job opportunities. Employers participating in the Show-Me-Heroes program sign a pledge to reach out and interview veterans for job openings at their businesses.

There are currently 4,517 Missouri businesses that have taken the pledge and 7,766 veterans who have been hired.
