Google Fiber has selected another Missouri city for installation. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Grandview Mayor Steve Dennis.
Dennis said he has been expressing his interest to the company for two years. “I was surprised about two and a half or three months ago when I got the call that google was interested in doing this.” He said, “As a city, we’ve actually been moving toward a higher technology vent to our entrepreneurial programs here. So, this worked out very well for us and we’re very excited. Hopefully now we can take advantage of gigabit technology.”
Dennis said the broadband network will contribute to the re-branding of the city. “This really adds in well to our new push for technology and a creative community that comes here. We already have a college basically, that works heavily in video and audio technology, so this could be something that really gives them a good jump start too.”
Dennis says he hopes the installation will take place within two years. Grandview will work diligently to spread the word about the project.
