The initiative gives the college the opportunity to partner with other organizations to make a lasting impact in the area. “The Building Community through Education initiative puts the University of Central Missouri and the Warrensburg school district in a collaborative project with the Johnson County Habitat for Humanity to build a home here in the Warrensburg area to be complete by May 2013,”Bax said.

The building project is a collaborative community effort that requires the time and dedication of many volunteers.  “By the time we get this home done, sometime in the spring of 2012, hundreds will have been involved,” Bax said.  “Just in the fundraising, we have involved a wide variety of student organizations and lots of the different residence halls on campus have held fundraisers.”

The group will break ground at the home located at 628 West Gay Street Friday evening at five.
