The Missouri House Delegation voted along with the Senate to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government at least until December. Many cite the defunding of Planned Parenthood as the cause of Republican opposition. However, according to a report by the Huffington Post, some Republicans were cited as noting that it would not matter if the defunding portion were left in the resolution since Planned Parenthood receives grants from Medicaid and health care reimbursements which would not be affected by the legislation.
The deficit has reportedly reached $18.1 trillion, which seems to be the primary cause of Republican concern.
Missouri Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler voted against the short-term budget extension just passed in the House. She says, “kicking the can down the road is not acceptable” The resolution now is on president Obama’s desk, certain to be approved. Hartzler says, Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked progress toward the passage of annual appropriations bills, which, she says, is what should be happening. The resolution also, according to Hartzler, would see even more drastic funding reduction in the military than current levels. Hartzler represents Missouri’s fourth congressional district.
Missouri Senator Roy Blunt also voted against the measure.
