The Green Hills Community Action Agency and Missouri Valley Community Action Agency are just two of the local organizations running a Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program. Funding for LIHEAP comes through the Missouri Department of Social Services, and has two components: Energy Assistance/Regular Heating and the Energy Crisis Intervention Program.

Energy Assistance provides financial assistance to help pay heating bills between October and March. Eligibility is based on income, household size, and available resources.

The Emergency Crisis Intervention Program funds are used for households who have already been approved for Emergency Assistance.

Anyone who wishes to enroll in either program can sign up by contacting their local Community Action Agency. Applicants will need to provide proof of income, copies of social security cards, and utility bills. Applications are categorized based on the severity of the emergency.
