Sandbags are starting to come down as the Missouri River continues to retreat back within its banks. Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Tony Hoffman cautioned that high water levels will be around for a few more weeks.
“We’re planning around the 10th, mid-October, for the Missouri river to be back in it’s banks. Assuming the weather conditions and everything else stays somewhat the same as it has been the last few weeks,” Col. Hoffman said.
According to Hoffman, the Corps has not seen any significant changes in the conditions of the levees for quite some time and more detailed damage inspections will take place once the flood waters are gone.
